Venture capitals were burned by the cleantech rush over the past decade. Heavy resources, bottoming-out oil prices and long supply chains blocked most startups from profits and exits. Now, cleantech companies are positioning themselves as smart city entrepreneurs and playing up SaaS, data and the natural efficiencies of urban clusters.
